Hello!
I am currently an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Studies in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. I am a recipient of the 2021 Social Science and Humanities Research Fellowship awarded by the Singapore Social Science Research Council, and have participated in research grants totalling almost $9 million, of which more than $2 million was awarded as either a lead PI or institution lead.
I study the psychological, cognitive, and behavioral effects of emerging media and communication technologies. My research agenda focuses on three key pillars:
• Human-AI Interaction & AI Effects: Examining user trust, attitudes, and emotional/cognitive responses toward Artificial Intelligence, including generative AI news detection, AI chatbot dynamics, and AI-driven information overload
• Immersive & Extended Reality (VR/XR): Harnessing virtual environments, avatars, and multisensory cues as catalysts for empathy, prosocial behavior, and attitudinal change
• Digital Well-Being & Technology Fatigue: Conceptualizing and mitigating media-induced strain, specifically videoconference fatigue, information overload, and technostress
I have collaborated with global and local institutions, including the Stanford Prevention Research Center (USA), the Ministry of Health (Singapore), the Health Promotion Board (Singapore), and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (Singapore) to design and evaluate digital health interventions. My work has appeared in leading journals such as New Media & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, and Media Psychology. I was awarded the Nanyang Education Award in 2023 for teaching excellence and earned a Top Paper Award at the International Communication Association (ICA) Conference.
